ISTE 2016* and a Simple Challenge

(*International Society for Technology Education)

As I reflect on the experience of attending ISTE 2016 in Denver, CO this past week, I am struck by the marvelous opportunities we have as educators to engage our students and facilitate their diverse needs and abilities in ways that have never before been possible.  While there are countless tools and resources that are awaiting your discovery, there is a far greater pressing message I feel compelled to share.  I want to challenge each of you to take ownership of your professional development.  Where you are weak, seek knowledge.  Where you are strong, share knowledge.  Become an active part of your school and conference professional development community.  If one doesn’t presently exist, start one!  We need to grow and learn from one another.  Don’t be bound by the intimidation and fear of not “having all the answers”. It is truly an exciting time to be an educator, as resources and opportunities abound!

As we educate for a greater cause, it is my hope and prayer that each of us authentically seeks to offer the very best to our students, to their families, and to our communities, and that through the challenges you may face in the process, that you will grow and be richly blessed.

May you have courage for the journey, a vision of a better tomorrow, and be blessed for your efforts!

Blessings, Aaron Long
