o God be the Glory! Thanks to the generosity of schools and individuals who donated to the Disaster Relief website, as of January 29, $33,556.94 has been raised, and donations are still coming in. These funds will be used to assist schools in rebuilding that were damaged or destroyed during the storms and fires of 2017.

When the Grade 3 class at CHCS heard about Hurricane Irma during Current Events, they immediately asked, “What can we do to help?” As a class they began to brainstorm ideas for raising funds in which they could be directly involved. After discussing each idea, the class agreed that having a Baked Goods/Frozen Treats Sale was something they wanted to do.
The students began to plan their sale. They divided into groups of students who would take turns spending their lunchtime and lunch recess working at the sales table. A letter went home explaining their endeavor and asking parents who were able to help make delicious baked goods.
The results were greater than the students had hoped. On each day of the week-long sale, the table was covered with mouth-watering confections. So many in fact, that the sales table was open 2 days longer than planned, to be able to sell the remaining goods. The students counted all the money, excited to realize a profit of $327.70 CND ($250 USD) to be donated to Hurricane Irma relief.

The Grade 3 class at College Park Elementary School watched a video on the Texas school that was hit by the hurricane and felt compelled to help. The students made signs and raised money by collecting loose change during the before and after school pick up and drop off. In just two days they raised $341.00 towards the In the Path of Disaster Aid Campaign.

I just wanted to give you an update as to the amount written on the check that will be mailed to NAD today: $2,003.52. We were short less than $100.00 of the $2,000 mark as of yesterday afternoon. A member "got wind" of how much we were short and called late last night telling me he had some work for the boys to do at his place and he would donate another $100.00.
This has been such an amazing journey with God and the boys see His hand in it and we continue to give Him the praise and glory for blessing our efforts beyond our imagination!
Another benefit that God has brought from this: One boy has never had to work for anything, if he wants it his parents get it for him. He has no concept of work ethic. However, he does have a deep desire to help others and is compassionate. Therefore, he's actually excited about doing physical work because he knows it's going to help others.
We did 3+ hrs. of very physical work and I worked along beside the boys to encourage them, even teaching them how to use a shovel. Rewarding for me to see them develop this side of their character! They at least have had a taste of work ethic and will again when we work for the remaining $100.00.
They are stacking a dump truck of shake shingles to help their sister schools that have been demolished by hurricanes. They also cleaned up behind an auto body shop that had accumulated 38 yrs. worth of garbage, mostly small vehicle parts, but enough to fill 2 huge city dumpsters!!!! We also had a soup supper that church members enjoyed and donated around $1,750.00. A check for $2,000 was sent into the NAD with The rest coming from the 2 work bees for local businesses!

If you think your loose coins don’t amount to much, consider that our elementary students brought in their pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to raise more than $2,600 for The Oaks Adventist Christian School in Houston that was flooded by Hurricane Harvey.
The 6th grade class hosted The Penny Wars, a fundraiser to support The Oaks where their teacher, Brandy Rich, once taught. The school had five feet of water in their classrooms and sustained so much damage the classes are now meeting in the gym with temporary partitions. They lost desks, books, school supplies and more.
“Every day we prayed that God would multiply this money like He did with the loaves and fish and bless The Oaks,” said Mrs. Rich. “Little by little the kids brought in their coins. Ultimately, we raised $2,635.86! God is so good!”
All classes from Kindergarten through Grade 8 participated in the competition from Sept. 18 to 29 to see which class could bring in the most money. The 6th grade class came in first place bringing in $913.43 of the total money raised.
“Penny Wars was an amazing experience! I felt like God was telling our class to help The Oaks Adventist Christian School! I was so happy that we raised over $2,000, and we helped another school. I will never forget this wonderful experience,” said 6th grade student Khali Muth.
“I learned that a little blaze of fire (pennies) can create a giant fire! I also learned that we didn’t just put pennies into a jar. We also put in love, compassion, and life savings. It was all done to help another school,” said 6th grade student Jacob Alce.
What an amazing lesson for all of us that even our littlest bits, when joined with others, can make a big difference.
